This video guides you through the construction of a 25 cubic foot gas-fired kiln that is a perfect project for the novice builder, yet large enough for a serious hobby potter or a beginning production potter. It begins with the layout and design for the foundation, and includes the placement and cutting of bricks for walls, and the building of the firing chamber, the door, and the sprung arch roof. The detailed materials list and working drawings that come with this video make this a comprehensive kiln-building resource. Nothing is taken for granted, from the initial layout to the final brick in the chimney. The materials list and working drawings are included on the DVD menu.

| With an understanding of the principles of kiln construction and materials, Sheehan then demonstrates the actual construction of a kiln from laying the floor to building the walls level, plumb and square. Once 16 rows of bricks have been laid, the walls are done, and Sheehan moves on to demonstrating the construction of an arched roof. Building an arched roof is not difficult, but you need to understand the technique and the importance of the steel frame. The chimney, piping, burners, fiber liner and bag wall complete the project.
Building Your Own Potter’s Kiln provides you with a visual demonstration of the principles and techniques required to build your own kiln. By looking at the entire video before you begin, you’ll get a much better idea of what’s required to build your own kiln. And, better than a workshop, you stop, start and repeat any clips you need.
