Michael Giles Pottery
Each pot is hand-made – thrown, stretched, cut, slip-trailed, brushed, glazed, fired in a process that combines inspiration, control and the luck of happy accident. Form is the genesis; function always flows from form; decoration must never be superfluous. The line drawn by a bowl’s rim, the space claimed by a vase’s belly, the gesture of a brush stroke, the depth and texture of a glaze, all are born in the pot as it grows on the potter’s wheel. I want each piece to be alive with humour, compassion, wonder, quirkiness, a love of life, and the pleasure of giving pleasure.
