Studio Description: I converted my garage and safe room under my home into my studio. Studio appx.. 14′ x 32′ , kiln room / storage / water 9′ x 15′. In my studio I have 2 electric wheels and my original kick wheel (32 years and counting), slab roller, ware cart, down draft carving table, air purifier, vacuum for pottery studios, rug shampooer for cleaning concrete, electric sander for bottoms, spray booth and accessories, rolling table for glaze formulation, digital and ohm scales, banding wheels, and a large variety of tools, sprig molds, sponges etc. Three digital electric kilns, large exhaust fan, storage shelves, double sink with hot & cold water. A.D. Pottery is either wheel thrown and or hand built using cone 6 stoneware or porcelain clay and studio glazes. Just about 98% of the time I carve or incise the pieces I produce. I get my ideas from nature, ancient art, petroglyphs to name a few. Normally I do not make patterns unless I am repeating a design element. I etch my ideas on the pot, do some refining before I start carving. The design circle the pot telling a story or repeating. Depending on the degree of difficulty the designs can take up to 30 hours and more for the carving on one piece. |
